I just wanted to share my experience with my SP Board family.
Yesterday started out as such a shitty day at work, but then the night made up for it.
After work, I went to this event at Harper College (community college near me)called "Spidey Unmasked." It was basically an exlusive look at behind the scenes of the Spiderman films with Chris Daniels. If youdon't know who Chris is.. He is Toby Mcguire's stunt double. Once that Spiderman suit goes on, it's all Chris including most of the acting. Toby just gets the spotlight. =P Below is a video from one of the Spiderman DVDs featuring himself.
The presentation was pretty neat. He talks about his career and how he gotstarted. Then he showed some behind the scenes stuff of Spiderman that wasn't in the special features of the DVD, which was a lot of fun to watch. After that.. was questions and answers. My only question was how long did it take him to land his first gig in Hollywood. He said he got lucky and booked his first gig in 3 weeks. LUCKY BASTARD!!! After questions and answers, he just did a demo of a high fall onto some boxes. Ivolunteered tohelped him build the boxes for him to fall on.
After the high fall, it was the typical autograph signings in the main lobby. I was maybe the 4th person in line to get an autograph. While he was signing a flyer for me, I popped the question. "I know this sounds a littlewierd to ask you this, but after the autograph signings,is itpossible for you to look at my demoreel and get a critique?" He was like, "Yeah sure. No problem." I waited about an hour and a half for all the signings and I was just chatting with my kungfu classmate, Larry, who happened to be there because he is a teacher at Harper College. Once there were about 4 people left to get autographs, I got back in line. When the time came, I pulled him to the corner and showed him my reel. Believe it or not, he said he was really impressed. After he saw my reel, I asked if he wanted to see something that was shot two weeks ago, which was the fight with SP. I'm happy to say that Spiderman waseven more impressed.
We talked briefly about the industry and he floated a few names of who is mainly known in the industry for stunt coordination that involves martial arts. The only name I recognized was JJ Perry. In conclusion, after looking at my reel, he said thatI need to go to L.A. I told him I was thinking about it, but I was worried because of the politics and my lack of contacts in the industry. Then he asked me the million dollar question... "Do you have a copy of your reel on you?" I had the reel in my hand and was honestly not going to give it to him unless he asked for it. His reaction was like.. "wow.. look at this guy." But anyway, who knows if he really will or not, but he said he would give it to someone out there in the industry.
Sowhether he threw my reel away after I left, or it will burn a hole in his suitcase, I had a great time meeting this guy.
Before joining LBP, I was honestly going to quit and not pursue any of this because I felt like I wasn't good enough and I was getting too old for this shit.
But since the real Spiderman(or just a person that has been working 14+ years in the industry)says I have a shot, I feel alittle bitmore confident in my self. But not too confident....
I know this is my story, but I really wanted to thank LBP and everyone on the board for everything. All that you have done for me, has made mewho I am today. All your critiques have benefited me a lot more than you think. So once again, I thank you and would like to say in a non-gay way.... I LOVE YOU ALL!!!
Now let's start filming!!!
P.S. Check out these pictures..
