the Grand Theft Auto universe is SUPPOSED to be set in Liberty city...or NY i suppose...GTA1 - NY, GTA2 - NY, GTA3 - NY, GTA4 - NY.
GTA 1969 (london), GTA san andreas (la) and GTA vice city (miami) are kinda offshoots of GTA...otherwise, GTA4 would actually be like GTA VII |

actually I think NY is the perfect choice .. NY has to offer so many different stuff .. I mean its not without reason the main target in any kind of movieabout the end of the world ..
.. I really like it .. would have loved to see something like tokyo, hong kong, berlin, but I think from all the cities NY fits best. and beside that I am really interested in what they let you do in the city. |

GOD! You guys are so behind! I've been reading about this game, watching previews etc etc everyday for the last year! I've got my pre-ordered copy
ready to go for this Tuesday!
Firstly, yes Eric there will be desrtuctive environments! To the max! The engine they've got is putting in a shitload of detail into the world around it is NOT just about graphics. There's so much stuff to tell about this that I've actually forgotten a lot of it. Basically the overall point is that this game is not just a continuation of the last 3. It's another big jump in the style of the game like GTAII was to GTA3. It will not be San Andreas but with better graphics. As for the setting. Man, I was hearing these arguements a year ago when people first heard it would be liberty city! Again, since the game is making such a big jump the developers wanted to once again go back to a modern setting (ie the present rather than 80's or early 90's) and to totally revamp Liberty City. The GTA3 liberty city wasn't really an accurate representation whereas this on is meant to be very accurate (in a parody sense) of the true New York... and as one of you already said, GTA was always set in its own Universe of Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas with the exception of the 1969 London game. The map size itself is supposed to be very close to San Andreas but the fact that Liberty City will fit into a map almost that size should tell you just how detailed this place is going to be. It's getting perfect ratings, as did Vice City, but the problem for me was that the past GTA games relied too much on the 'missions', which just
felt like a bunch of sandbox driving and shooting. I know some folks are really into that, but it just never did it for me. It'll be interesting if this
one's much different.

The game wasn't as good as I hoped. It was pretty much more of the same, except they made it more serious with a little less humor. And they removed a lot
of vehicles and the stunt bonuses. The city is gray and a little boring. Radio stations aren't that good, best is Liberty City Hardcore.
The good stuff is that they've added ragdoll, it gives it a little more of a Carmageddon feel. They made the guns much cooler and the explosions are great, but the guy can't fight any good. The built-in multiplayer is a lot better than the previous games multiplayer. Graphics are good and there's stuff you can do on the side like play pool, throw darts or go bowling, almost like San Andreas. The city feels kind of empty sometimes like Driver 3, but the achievements make up for it (at least in the 360 version). It's a good game, not as good as the previous ones though (don't know about Liberty City Stories or Vice City Stories). I think it's worth getting.

I totally love it. I was a big fan of the previous ones - GTA 3, VC and SA - and I couldnt wait for this one. As I started it it looked like the previous
games, but still was quite different somehow. Driving is far more complex, shooting is different, even walking feels a little different, but hey all the other
games were like one big game (GTA 3 + 2 new episodes), this one is the next Sequal so it supposed to be different
.
After about 4 days of playing I totally love it - the city is HUGE and soooo detailed, the streets are full ofpeople and dirt, the driving totally rocks as soon as you got used to it and shooting people is now VERY violent ... ... its all I hoped for and more .. only downside are the radiochannels, they are too real .. too many commerical breaks. And yeah .. it feels shorter then GTA SA, but most of the time I driving taxi or just killing everyone on the streets so its ok .. the story was never the most important thing in GTA for me .

I haven't played myself yet but I spent a lot of time watching a few friends play last night.
First and foremost I will say that the graphics are entirely disappointing. They're not AWFUL, and some of the effects, like rain, are pretty good, but c'mon... the 360 has much better graphics capabilities than this utilized. It's pretty cartoony and the textures are subpar. The fighting/shooting are both improved, but still weak. The physics are good though, and it's fun to run people over and wave guns around and shit and watch reactions. Overall pretty nice package, but not as good as I was expecting unfortunately. |
