Man, I got nothing against different people's beliefs. And I respect that different industries seem to have their own lean. For instance the general
open-minded liberal swing in the film and theater industry. This could be partly because the roots of theater are in pagan naked bacchanalian festivities. I
mean, high school theater was pretty much the exact same thing. Drinking and kinkiness.
So anyway, this cat I met on a film shoot has been hitting me up a lot about being in my films. And highlighting his TKD brown belt. That's cool, he seemed like a decent guy. Then today on myspace he sends me this invite for a far-right-wing religio-conservative group he started, and his very first topic is talking about gay marriage and how he feels "gay's are forcing their filth on good people."
Now if someone has a really heated discriminatory POV, I don't care to have them on set because they won't have respect for everyone on the set. But what I really don't get is why this ASPIRING ACTOR would publicly espouse HATRED for the gay culture to a prospective professional contact who use to spin DISCO HOUSE. Sigh.
Not everyone in the film industry is a freaky deaky, and there's some pockets of the industry for fundamentalists. I don't see why he's trying to work in the "mainstream" while spouting his prejudice against so many people in it - not for matters of talent and creativity, but for lifestyle. I mean, if he has no concerns on the morality of a dark violent film like Dogs of Chinatown but sees a problem with two guys in love, he's got some real issues.
Obviously I have my own open-minded bias and am not afraid to claim it, but in this industry, my publicly-held views aren't closing 90% of the doors on me.
