Nicholas Tse and Gillian Chung are set to play the leading roles. The female lead was originally intended for Isabella Leong but owing to her dispute with the company, Gillian Chung was chosen to fill the role instead. Charlene Choi says, "Gillian Chung is feeling better now, and as it has always been her dreams to do kung fu films, she has bought some Wing Chun manuals. Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Interesting to see Gillian making another HK movie, because she had originally planned to leave after Naraka 19, which by the way is an awful movie. Gillian's one of the hottest girls on the planet, but her kung fu skills aren't up to Moon Lee's standard. Still, this is a Kung Fu based movie and Nicholas Tse is good, so I have some hopes for this one! Graeme Noble Kung Fu Hall of Fame

I also like the part of Nic Tse being the lead, only would rather see him in modern action movies, it also suits him better in the style of fighting. The serie Wing Chun was not a bad series it had some nice fights, Nic Tse best fights was when he was doing kickboxing style of fights, he was ok with the Wing Chun, btw he trains in Wing Chun so maybe he is better now. Can't hurt, right? I'll watch it. Plus, it doesn't say that the film will be a period movie. So that could be an interesting concept. I would like to see a Benny Chan period movie, though.

In the early 70's it was the Bruce Lee trend, - after Bruce Lee films in the late 70's it was the Kung Fu comedy trend, - after Drunken Master in the mid 80's it was the Heroic Bloodshed trend, - after A Better Tomorrow in the early 90's it was the Wong Fei Hung trend, - after Once Upon A Time In China and we've also had the influences and trends of Girls with Guns movies after Iron Angels, and also the war films over the past few years. Just look at SPL, how many HK movies have come out after this one, following the trend? Only Fatal Move just 1, if it was the old days there would be 100 of SPL movies right now. So don't expect any trend after Ip Man, just look at how many HK movies have come out this year, almost none new movies, must be the lowest production year for HK movies!!

Fatal Contact and Twins Mission are not the same kind of movie as SPL, or do you want to call Twins Mission being the same kind of dark gritty cop actioner? These movies are just action movies, movies like these ones are still made in HK even before SPL came out like Twins Effect. But it's only 1 movie a year or so. Invisible Target could be called a movie that was following a bit the trend but it was also just a action movie like New Police Story or Gen - X- Cops, all dir by Benny so you could call this more of a trend of Benny style and his type of movies. Flash Point was in the same trend as SPL but it's made by the same team so that's why i didn't name this one.

SPL got them made and it's obvious. they just didn't follow the grittiness and the seriousness of SPL but they still followed the success of the movie. Even though actioners were being made before, there wasn't much hope in action but SPL assured that. I also think you can't exclude Flash Point in this because it's still counts as a movie of the set trend, doesn't matter of it's the same team as SPL. they set the trend, they see others fill more and they continue with them. On a side note Ong Bak has been more of a influence and opened the eyes of the HK industry that there is still demand for good fight scenes but even this movie didn't start no trend in HK. They rather make Infernal Affaires type of movies ( also a trend) instead of MA movies!

Know that, they aren't exactly like SPL in terms of content but they followed the success of the movie nonetheless because they knew that movie put action back to the map and so were making action movies again. Following a movie is part of a trend, not only exact concepts and teams. all the movie I mentioned are a trend (slow one at that): they have MA and they take place in the modern day).

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Hopefully they'll get someone who not only knows a decent amount of wing chun, but can handle and convey the intricacies of the style in the choreography. I don't know who that person might be, but Benny Chan has a history of using Nicky Li Chung-chi as the choreographer in his action movies.
